Abstract

In this study, a new method combining deacidification, strengthening and antibacterial steps of paper conservation was developed, by using the compound solution containing hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyethylene oxide, nano-micro magnesium oxide and titanium dioxide. It was observed that the pH value of paper surface increased from 3.69 to 8.75 and the alkali reserve was 0.620mol/kg, the tensile strength significantly improved. After thermal aging, the pH value still was 8.21 and the alkali reserve was 0.600 mol/kg, the tensile strength maintained a high level. After treatment, the paper had certain antibacterial performance, the diameter of inhibition zone was 28 mm.
