Abstract

Effect of a poly (acrylic acid) (PAA)-poly (ethylene) (PEO) comb dispersant on the rheological properties of aqueous silicon carbide suspensions was investigated at different pH, and ionic strength conditions. It was found that PAA-PEO was effective to silicon carbide suspensions not only in basic condition, but also in neutral and weak acid conditions. Compared with PAA, PAA-PEO had better anti-electrolytic properties, the rheological properties almost keeped invariable as the concentration of the electrolytes in the suspensions increasing. An adsorption model was discussed based on the special surface chemical properties of silicon carbide and PEO.
