Abstract
An coupling apparatus with a chlorination reactor and a melt crystallizer was built, which was used in chlorination of acetic acid and separation of monochloroacetic acid (MCA) by crystallization at the same time. It meet the demands for restraining the over-chlorination and increasing the yield of MCA. Under the same conditions of crystallization, the change of the concentration of MCA with the reaction time at different chlorine flow was sdudied. The results showed that a "platform" in the concentration curve of MCA appears when the chlorine flow is 314.6 mL/min, and the reaction capacity matches with the separation capacity at that time. The mass fraction of MCA crystal is 94.9%, and the content of dichloroacetic acid is below 1.5%.
