Abstract
Aerogels with reversible deformation and elastic properties are often referred to as flexible aerogels. Different from traditional aerogels with poor mechanical properties, the flexible aerogels have been intensively studied recently, owing to their excellent performance in elasticity, bendability, hydrophobicity, solvent resistance, and so on. This paper reviewed the recent advances on silica, carbon, ceramic and biomass flexible aerogels, especially the synthesis, structure control, properties and applications of the above flexible aerogels. The general route and guideline to achieve the flexibility was concluded. The development and promising applications of the flexible aerogels were outlook.
