Abstract

Through doping with appropriate amount of Na+, Si4+ and Fe3+ ions, which are common elements in cement raw materials, the cubic calcium sulphoaluminate(Ca4Al6SO16, C4A3$) was prepared by solid state reaction. The phase composition and microstructure of Ca4-x NaxAl6-x-yFeySixO12SO4 were studied by X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and several other modern characterization techniques. The results show that Na+ ions has an important role on the formation and stability of cubic C4A3$. When the doping amount of Na+ ions is lower or higher(x=0.1 or x=0.4), C4A3$ is mainly of orthorhombic structure with many by-products formation. When the doping amount of Na+ ions is x=0.2 or x=0.3, and the appropriate amounts of Si4+ and Fe3+ ions are mixed, C4A3$ mainly exists in a cubic structure(up to more than 80%, mass fraction). The synthetic cubic C4A3$ has polygonal and spherical morphology, respectively.
