Abstract
Dolomite is a natural carbonate rock,which is abundantly available, widespread and inexpensive. The efficient utilization of dolomite powder as a new supplementary cementitious material (SCM) can meet the needs for cement-based materials with low embodied carbon and low cost,and improve the Performance of cement-based materials at some degrecwhich has significant technical and economic benefits. Therefore, the effects of dolomite powder on the properties of cement-based materials are summarized in terms of workability, mechanical property and durability in this paper by reviewing the latest research results of dolomite powder applied in cement-based materials, and the chemical behavior of dolomite powders in cement-based materials is also analyzed. The dolomite powder as a new SCM applied in cement-based materials can improve workability and volume stability, and read with cement to form calcium carbo aluminate to promote the strength development. Additionally, Mg-Al hydrotalcite can be formed in the cement pastes containing dolomite powder at elevated temperature,which can improve further the strength and durability of cement-based materials, facilitating the application of dolomite powder in cement-based materials. The current study about the application of dolomite powder in cement-based materials is insufficiency, further research and improvement are still needed in the future in terms of the reaction mechanism of dolomite powder and its influence mechanism on properties of cement-based materials.
