Abstract

In data center, packet loss is inevitable, leading to timeouts and retransmissions that severely affect network performance. However, current network monitoring solutions face challenges such as long detection times, lack of comprehensive packet loss information, and high overhead. To overcome these issues, we propose a fine-grained packet loss management system using programmable networks. Our system uses programmable switches to detect and retransmit lost packets and performs fine-grained processing according to different packet loss causes, achieving fast, accurate, and fine-grained packet loss processing. We implemented the system on a Barefoot Tofino switch using the P4 programming language, and preliminary validation confirms the effectiveness and feasibility of our approach.
