Abstract

The development of core-shell polymers was generalized. The methods of synthesis of core-shell polymer particles were reviewed. The merits and demerits of different methods, including batch process, semi continuous method and equilibrium swelling method, were compared. This review focused on the factors that infected the structure of core-shell polymer particles, including the way of adding the second monomer, initiators, hydrophilicity of the second monomer, the proportion of core and shell of the polymers, emulsifier contents, the grafting and the crosslinking degree. The application of core-shell polymer particles was also reviewed and discussed.
