Abstract
The effects of the aging temperature and holding time on the microstructure and hardness of the ultra-low-carbon steel bearing copper were investigated. The corresponding relationships between aging process and hardness, microstructure, aging precipitated particles were analyzed after testing microhardness and observing the microstructure of the aged steel. Both the fine ε-Cu particles precipitated in specimens of peak aging and overaging, and the transient structure formed in the early stage of aging were observed by high resolution electron microscope (HREM), and thus the age hardening effect of copper in steels have been proved.
