Abstract

The fouling mechanisms of ceramic microfiltration membrane used in the recovering of Raney nickel catalysts were discussed. Experimental results indicated that the membrane fouling was mainly caused by the cake formed on the membrane surface, and the cake exhibited irreversibility when the trans-membrane pressure was varied successively according to a cycle. The components of the cake and fouled membrane in the plant were analyzed. It indicated the pollutants were mainly composed of Raney nickel catalyst. The application also verified that the fouling was mainly caused by an irreversible cake formed on the membrane surface.
