Abstract

Serious deformations of joint seam on the pavement have been found in an airport located in Tibet. In order to reduce these corrosions at seams, hybrid fiber reinforced micro expansion concrete has been applied to the pavement slab to enlarge its dimension from 4 m × 4 m to 4 m × 8 m. Concrete strain gauges have been placed in slabs to analyze strain field in concrete. The results show that no cracks have been found in big dimension slabs at early age. Micro expansions have also been measured inside the concrete slabs which may be caused by the effect of hydration of magnesia expansion agent (MEA). The stabilities of new pavements have been enhanced by restrains of fibers together with expansion of MEA.
