Abstract

PCR-DGGE was applied to investigate the community structures of Ammonia-oxidizing Bacteria (AOB) in ten treatment systems of seven different Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (MWTPs) in Beijing. The results indicated that in these MWTPs, except for one system which had poor nitrification performance, all of the systems had AOB. But the diversity of AOB was low, and the AOB phenotypes were mainly grouped into the Nitrosomonas oligotropka/aestuarii-like cluster.
