Cure kinetic properties of talcum/EPDM composites

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This work covered the talcum filled with ethylene-propylene-terpolymer (EPDM), and the cure curve was obtained by oscillating disc rheometer under isothermal. By taking first-order-derivative and second-order-derivative of cure conversion respect to time, three characteristic time (tp, t1, t2) was obtained. So the process of vulcanization could be division to four regions. The characteristic of cure time (tp, t1, t2) vs. 1/T is an exponential type dependence, a model of autocatalytic reaction governs the process of vulcanization. With the loading of talcum increasing, the activation energy of the system decreases from 98.7269 kJ/mol to 77.69 kJ/mol.
