Abstract

The effects of ethanol concentration, temperature and liquid hourly space velocity(LHSV) on dehydration of ethanol to ethylene over 3%La-HZSM-5 molecular seive catalyst(loading La mass fraction 3%) were investigated in a fixed bed(Ø45 mm × 600 mm). The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), NH3 temperature programmed desorption(NH3-TPD), N2 adsorption-desorption and thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimeter(TG-DSC) and particle strength tests. And the stability of the catalysts were investigated. The results showed that the catalyst exhibited good catalytic performance for ethanol dehydration, good regeneration ability, good strength and stability. Ethanol conversion and ethylene selectivity were both above 98% under the conditions of ethanol mass concentration 50%, LHSV 1.1 h-1 and 260°C. The single pass lifetime of the catalyst was up to 900 h.
