Abstract

Rhizopus oryzae is a preferable species for its outstanding ability to directly produce almost optimally pure L-lactic acid and fumaric acid (two green platform biochemicals) from starch with low nutritional requirement. The organic acid formentation by the free Rhizopus oryzae leads to a series of questions, including the lower Rhizopus oryzae availability and the lower product yield. So the research of immobilization cell technology is necessarily to be carried out. Current studies on organic acid fermentation by immobilized Rhizopus oryzae is mainly focused on the research of carrier immobilization cell technology. The self-immobilization cell technology as a new immobilization cell one is increasingly developed and consummated. In this article, the development and status quo in organic acid fermentation by immobilized Rhizopus oryzae are reviewed and discussed in this paper.
