Effect of Repair Welding on the Creep Behavior of a 12Cr1MoV/GTR-2CM/P91 Dissimilar Joint

Abstract

Repair welding is widely used for improving the life of different structure. In this paper, weldment of the original 12Cr1MoV/GTR-2CM/P91 dissimilar joint was totally removed and then repaired with the same weld metal, and subsequent uniaxial creep tests were performed both on the pre repaired and post repaired dissimilar joint at 550 °C for stresses ranging from 140 to 200 MPa. The aim of this research was to discuss the effect of repair welding on the creep behavior of the original dissimilar joint from comparing the results of these specimens. Several features of the work are presented: (i) the fracture mode remained transgranular at all test conditions for both pre and post repaired dissimilar joint. (ii) the repair welding in this case has increased the creep life compared with the original weldment. (iii) the creep behaviours for both joints were well described by the power-law creep equation, and the stress coefficient (B and A) and the stress exponent (n and v) are compared between these two joints.
