Abstract

Due to the excellent properties of two-dimensional layered structural materials, mica and graphene oxide were used to prepare high-performance composite layered filler and applied to intumescent fire-retardant coatings. The effects of composite filler on the fire protection, thermal stability, and flame retardancy of intumescent fire-retardant coatings were studied and analyzed, and the fire protection mechanism was discussed. The effect of composite fillers on fire-retardant coatings was further explained by the microstructure and elemental composition of the carbon layer after the fire protection test. Moreover, the water resistance and mechanical properties of the fire-retardant coatings were also discussed. The results show that the fire-retardant coating with 1.5% composite filler exhibits excellent thermal properties, but the coating with 2% composite filler has excellent water resistance and mechanical properties.
