Abstract

The excessive breakdown of glycogen is an important contributor to fast hyperglycemia. As the key rate-limiting enzyme in glycogenolysis, glycogen phosphorylase is the potential therapeutic target in the treatment of diabetes. This review covers advances as well as tendency in the research of glycogen phosphorylase inhibitors according to their different binding sites.
