Abstract
Well defined and highly crystalline BaFCl:Yb3+/Er3+ microsheets were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method for the first time. It is found that the as-obtained samples belong to a tetragonal system and exhibit microsheets morphology with side length of 0.5-1.5 μm. The upconversion (UC) emission properties of the prepared BaFCl:Yb 3+/Er3+ are investigated in detail. Under 980 nm laser diode (LD) excitation, the emission intensity and the corresponding luminescent colors of BaFCl:Yb3+/Er3+ can be precisely tuned by changing the doping concentration of Yb3+ ions. Furthermore, this synthetic methodology appears to be general and promising to provide a gateway into other MFCl (M=Ca, Sr) compounds.
