Abstract

Zero Ge! Reductions of an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) adduct of GeCl2 with magnesium(1) dimers afford a dimeric compound (see picture), which structural and theoretical studies show to contain a singlet digermanium(0) fragment DGe=GeD datively coordinated by two NHC ligands.
