Abstract

This paper introduced the degradation mechanism of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) under the irradiation of ultraviolet light. The stereoregularity of PVC, solvent, plasticizer, thermal stabilizer, pigment and blending of PVC were generally deemed as the main influential factors in the ultraviolet light degradation phenomenon. The wavelength of ultraviolet radiation and the thickness of product could cause certain influence to the ultraviolet light degradation process. The studies on photodegradation, as one of the research hotspots in this field, not only could favor the prevention of PVC products from overquick degradation in normal cases, but also benefit the rational utilization of the light degradation characteristic of PVC in its application as an environmental-friendly material.
