Abstract

During long-term aging treatment at 600 °C, α2 phase and silicide are characterized to realize the microstructure stability of the high temperature titanium alloy Ti-60. Sizes, distribution and crystallographic of precipitations are analyzed through TEM after aging treatment from 8 hours to 100 hours. Inside α platelets, compact α2 phase precipitates coherently, the sizes and distances of the particles increase with the aging time. The average size of the particles approximates 20 nm after 100 hours of aging. On the other hand, silicides as (Ti,Zr)6Si3 mainly precipitate along α α plate boundaries in addition to some dislocations. The long and short axis of the ellipsoid silicide particles are less than 80 nm and 160 nm after 100 hours of aging, respectively. Enrichment of zirconium in silicide is proved through EDS.
