Abstract

Biodiesel was prepared from waste edible oil with high acid value (AV) by esterification and two-stage transesterification. AV of waste edible oil could be lowered to 2 mg/g by adding water absorber in esterification to meet transesterification demand. When attapulgite was utilized as water absorber for esterification, it was preferable to add it 30 min after the start of esterification. The optimal dosage of NaOH-KOH for each stage transesterification were 1 and 0.75% of oil and fat, respectively.
