Abstract

Recent progress of hydrogen production under visible light with modified TiO 2 was briefly reviewed. Hydrogen production by photocatalysis under visible light is a promising route which can resolve both fuel and environmental problems. Modification of TiO 2, including doping, surface sensitization, and use of composite semiconductor, can extend the energy range of photoexcitation for TiO 2 system. The mechanism of photoexcitation in visible light and the progress of three TiO 2 modification methods were analyzed. Progress of hydrogen evolution from water using modified titania under visible light was discussed in detail. Many researches show that ion doping TiO 2 is the most efficient and stable approach among the three modification methods, so doping becomes a main direction for further researches.
