Abstract

The composition, structure and morphology of rice husks are discussed. Recent developments in the preparation of advanced materials such as high purity silica, silica aerogel, high specific surface activated carhon and its derivatives etc, using rice husks as silicon or carbon source, are reviewed. The preparation and modification of rice husk fiber, and the fiber application of organic-inorganic composite materials are briefly described. The application of rice husks in the future is outlined.
