Abstract

Three ferrocenyl Schiff base monomers are synthesized from ferrocenecarboxaldehyde and phenylenediamine (p-, m- or o-) as precursors under the neutral condition, and then used to produce copolymer conducting materials with terephthaloyl chloride monomer by Friedel-Crafts reaction, and a series of charge transfer complexes yielded with iodine. Their conductivity can be increased by several orders of magnitude after doping with iodine, and they have property of absorbing UV. The conductivity of poly-p-bis (ferrocene-Schiff base) with doping iodine is 3.17 × 10-4S/cm, which is maximum among three polymers. The magnetism property of poly-o-bis (ferrocene-Schiff base) with doping iodine is the best among them, which is 2-3 times by weight compared to the other two.
