Abstract

This work reported solid–liquid balance data of lutein in four green and low-toxic binary solvents from 278.15 to 323.15 K. The experimental data have been verified by four semi-empirical models, the maximum RMSD is not more than 4.17E−04, and the data has excellent correlation with Jouyban–Acree model and Sun model. Contemporaneously, the maximum solubility of lutein in this work is related to pure methanol. At 323.15 K, the solubility of lutein in methanol can reach 2.10E−04. In addition, due to the sharp change in the tendency of lutein dissolution in the mixture (methanol + water), the system can also be used as an ideal solvent for purifying lutein. After analysis of KAT-LSER model, the polarity of the solvent can promote the dissolution of lutein, the proportion of the total solvent effect of this item is 33.47 %.
