Abstract

The increasing high price and decreasing reserves of fossil fuels push the rapid development of biorefineries, which utilize renewable bioresources to produce energy and chemicals, all over the world. Since 2007 US government's investment was mainly introduced in construction of various kinds of biorefineries through the Department of Energy. Industrial bases of biorefineries which utilize cassava and straw as materials for production of bioethanol, and waste oils and algae as feedstock for production of biodiesel in China were also described. Based on these situations, some thoughts on development of biorefineries in China were proposed.
