Abstract

The reaction between 4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine (tpyCl) with d 10 transition-metal ions produced two cadmium(II) and two zinc(II) metal complexes, formulated as [Cd(tpyCl-k{cyrillic} 3N,N′,N″)(NO 3-k{cyrillic} 2O,O′)(NO 3-k{cyrillic}O)(H 2O-k{cyrillic}O)] (1), [Cd(tpyCl-k{cyrillic} 3N,N′,N″) 2](ClO 4) 2 (2), [Zn(tpyCl-k{cyrillic} 3N,N′,N″) 2](ClO 4) 2 (3), and [Zn(tpyCl-k{cyrillic} 3N,N′,N″) 2](BF 4) 2 (4). Supramolecular interactions include coordinative bonding, O-H ··· O, O-H ··· Cl, C-H ··· F, and C-H ··· Cl hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking, all of which play essential roles in forming different frameworks of 1-4.
