Abstract

Response spectrum method be used to designing energy dissipation structures can not represent the nonlinearity of viscous dampers and the performance of structures under large earthquakes. Time-history analysis is very complicated, a lot of trial calculations must be required. In this paper a displacement-based design method for vicous damper energy dissipation structures is put forward. The design idea is that the seismic design is focused on the structural components, and the viscous dampers just make up for the insufficiency of the structural strength, and a MDOF structure is transformed into an equivalent SDOF system. A 13-story frame-shear wall structure is designed by this method. The dynamic time-history analysis of the structure shows reasonability of this method.
