Abstract

In terms of aid grinding and enhancing strength of the pastes, high performance grinding aid A has been found. The effect of high performance grinding aids on powder properties and physical and chemical performance of ordinary portland cement pastes have been systematically studied by various physical and chemical analysis methods, such as laser particle size distribution analysis, XRD, TG-DTA and so forth. The results show that high performance grinding aid has greater effect on grinding and strength of the cement pastes. It improves the flowability, increases fineness, improves particle size composition and distribution including reducing mean diameter and narrowing down particle size distribution and increasing the content of fine particles especially of 3-32 μm particles. The high performance grinding aids increase strength of 3 d and 28 d of cement mortar and accelerate the hydration of cement by increasing the crystalline and compactness of hydration products. The grinding mechanism is that grinding aids can reduce resistance to comminution, prevent reduction in agglomeration and ball and mill wall coating, improve the flowability which will intensify frequency and efficiency between particles and media. The major reason of enhancing strength of the pastes of grinding aids is that grinding aid A improves particle size distribution.
