Abstract

Inorganic ceramic membrane was used to pretreat the wastewater from terephthalic acid (PTA) production to remove solid granules and recover PTA. Influencing factors, e.g., membrane pore size, transpressure, cross velocity, temperature, and backflushing conditions were studied. Preferred process parameters were membrane pore size 200 nm, transpressure 0.30 MPa, cross velocity 3-4 m/sec, operation temperature 20°-80°C, backflushing duration i sec, backflushing interval 40 min, and backflushing pressure 0.40 MPa. Basically, no PTA solid granules in water could be detected after pretreatment.
