Abstract

The tribological behavior of polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) composites filled with carbon fibers (CF) etc fillers was studied under different load. Composite microstructures and modes failure were investigated by SEM. The fusion heat and the degree of crystallinity of the various composites were got by DSC and XRD, which were related to the tribological performance. These results indicate that the creep fracture is the main reason of early failure of PTFE composites under high load; and the addition of fillers with high specific surface area will cause an increase in the fusion heat of PTFE composites, then that makes the wear rate decrease; the crystallinity of PTFE matrix has distinctly effect on the resistance of creep distortion.
