Abstract

Two new complexes, trans-[CuL 2(ClO 4) 2] (1) and cis-[CoL 2(H 2O) 2](ClO 4) 2 2H 2O (2) with 3-(pmethoxyphenyl)- 4-(p-chlorophenyl)-5- (2-pyridyl)-1,2, 4-triazole (L), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, ESI-MS, TGA/DSC, powder XRD, and single crystal X-ray crystallography. Each L in the complexes is chelating bidentate via one N of pyridyl and one N of triazole. Both complexes have similar distorted octahedral [MN 4O 2] cores (M=Cu 2+ and Co 2+) with two ClO 4 - in trans-positions in 1 but two H 2O molecules cis in 2.
