Abstract

A new high valent [Fe2(III/III)L(μ-OAc)2] · PF6 complex was prepared, where L was 2,6-Bis(((2-hydroxy-5-ten-butyl-benzyl)(pyridyl-2-methyl)amino) methyl)-4-methylphenol, which contained another two phenolate and tert-butyl functional groups compared to [Fe2(II,III)(bpmp)(μ-OAc)2] · BPh4)2. In this complex, two pseudo-octahedrally coordinated Fe ions were bridged by a phenolate group and two bidentate acetate ligands. The stronger and more coordinate bonds between anionic phenolate groups and Fe ions in higher oxidation state prevented the dissociation of central ions. The additional tert-butyl groups improved the solubility and electronic cloud density of the ligand. These improvements narrowed the disparity between the new model and the MMOH. And IR, ESI-MS, NMR (gCOSY, gHMBC, gHSQC) and electrochemistry characterized the new ligand or complex.
