Abstract
A novel imidazoline compound, 2-(2-trichloromethyl-4, 5-dihydro-imidazol-1-yl)-ethylamine (CIM) was synthesized in laboratory. The structure of CIM was identified by 1H-NMR and FTIR. Weight-loss method, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the corrosion behavior of mild steel in 0. 5 mol/L HCl solution with or without CIM. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency of CIM increased with increasing inhibitor concentration and kept effective at high temperatures. The imidazoline compound is a mixed-type inhibitor whose adsorption behavior onto mild steel surface can be well expressed by Langmuir isotherm equation.
