Synthesis, Crystal Structure of Complex of (NO 2Ql) 2[Ni(mnt) 2]

Abstract

The ion-pair complex (NO 2Ql) 2[Ni(mnt) 2] ((NO 2Ql) + = 1-(4-nitrobenzyl) -quilorinium; mnt 2- = maleonitriledithiolate) has been prepared, characterized by elementary analysis and IR spectrum. The crystal structure determination of this complex shows: Triclinic, space group P1̄ with a = 8.2240(16) Å, b = 10.777(2) Å, c = 12. 137(2) Å, α = 72.58(3)°, β = 72. 82(3)°, γ = 68. 78(3)°, V = 935. 4(3) Å3 and Z = 1. The most prominent general structural features of the complex are the completely segregated stack columns of [Ni(mnt) 2] 2- anions and [NO 2Ql] + cations. The [Ni(mnt) 2] 2- anions form uniform one-dimensional chain within the anion column, and there are weak π ...π stacking interactions between neighbor cations.
