Abstract

The control problem of an industrial distillation column is studied. Just the top control loop is discussed in this paper. By means of data collected from the distributed control system (DCS), two soft sensors are first developed. Based on this work, an inferential control project was proposed, and an optimization framework added on it, to improve control performance further. This advanced process control system has been used successfully in practice and produced a satisfying result.
