Abstract

A stress analysis on the vessel including a big fault between the head and the cylinder was conducted via FEM. The stress distribution in the fault area was obtained and the structure was assessed based on the standard of stress intensity analysis. The stress located in the fault area contented with the stress intensity principle. The vessels with different size of fault were analyzed. The fault tolerance was discussed, and it gave a little engineering significance for the estimation of the usability of an in-service vessel including faults.
