Abstract
Observable effects of ageing of lithium ion batteries are described. The chemical reactions causing battery degradation are presented, interactions between these processes and the influence of operating conditions, type of use and handling by the user are discussed. From experimental observations suggestions for gentle handling aiming at slower ageing are derived.
