abstract = "Microwave irradiation was employed to synthesise pyridine-3,5-dicarbontriles via a multicomponent reaction. It was discovered that MWI could accelerate the MCR dramatically, either with active aldehydes in ethanol or sterically hindered aldehydes in acetonitrile. MWI showed more dramatically effect upon the MCR using active aldehydes in ethanol, since ethanol was a good MWI solvent. Acetonitrile, which was a poor MWI solvent, was found to be more efficient than ethanol in either MWI system or conventional heating system with sterically hindered aldehydes as building blocks.",
