N2 - The mechanism and kinetics of hydration of alkali-activated slag (AAS) have been studied. Heat of hydration, non-evaporable water content and hydration degree of AAS were examined. Similar to ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the hydration process of AAS could be classified into five stages: initial, induction, acceleration, deceleration and decay, but the mechanisms are different. The apparent activation energy determined for an AAS sample was 53.63 kJ/mole.
