摘要
Due to the use of magnesium metal anodes with high theoretical specific capacity, abundant reserves, and low cost, magnesium-based batteries have become one of the alternatives to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Although significant progress in reversible magnesium deposition of the magnesium anode and efficient Mg-ion transport of the electrolytes has been achieved, the application of magnesium-based batteries is still greatly hindered by the lack of high-energy cathode materials. The metal-chalcogenide cathode materials with dual-redox centers (i.e., the redox of both the cation and anion) may offer high capacity and could be good candidates for achieving high-energy electrode couples using the magnesium metal anode. This review aims to highlight the recent progress on these cathode materials for magnesium batteries and hybrid-cation batteries using the magnesium metal anode. The perspectives and challenges for the future development of these cathode materials are analyzed.
