N2 - Ceramic membranes owning the advantages of mechanical and chemical stability, anti-fouling, high permeability, and good recoverability have achieved rapid development for industrial separation and pollution control. To further improve the separation efficiency and minimize the energy consumption, increasing attention is paid to the rational design and engineering of microstructures of ceramic membranes. Compared to the typical particulate powders, one-dimensional (1D) materials have been demonstrated as a competitive player that can both simply the preparation process and improve the filtration efficiency of ceramic membranes. This review will firstly introduce the types of 1D micro-/nano-materials that have been intensively used in the fabrication of ceramic membranes. Then, the benefits and concerns of these 1D materials in ceramic membranes will be detailed successively from their roles in the support, intermediate layer and top layer. Finally, the future research focus and development direction were prospected.
