title = "Simulation and full-scale experiments of tunnel fire with shafts on roof",
abstract = "Based on CFD theory and the knowledge gained from the full-scale experiments a mathematical model is built to study the characteristic of fire in tunnel which adopts natural ventilation systems. The system consists of groups of openings on tunnel roof, and vertical shafts on each opening. The smoke temperature, smoke concentration, smoke spread and sedimentation laws, are, firstly, simulated using FLUENT software under full- scale experiments' condition. Secondly, simulated results are compared with the data gathered from full-scale experiments. Lastly the conclusion is drawn that the presented mathematical model is applicable for researching the tunnel fire with natural ventilation systems. It provides theoretical support to adopt this innovative tunnel with vertical shaft on roof in future.",
