Abstract

This article studied the deacidification technology of a whole book without debinding by immersion followed by microwave drying under vacuum. The deacidification effect was evaluated by testing the pH value, tensile strength and color difference of the treated and untreated paper before and after the thermal aging as well as the analysis of the changes of the paper fibres. Results showed that the deacidification of a whole book which was immersed for 60 minutes in vacuum degree of -0.1 MPa, then dried by microwave with the condition of 800 W and 60℃ was successful.
