Abstract

Cement clinker was prepared by copper tailings to replace clay. Burn-ability of cement raw meal and f-CaO content were tested. By using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis and mercury intrusion porosimetry, mineral composition of clinker, compressive strength, hydration products and porosity of hardened cement paste were studied. And the reaction mechanism was analyzed. It turns out that copper tailings are conducive to cement clinker sintering and formation of minerals. Copper tailings can reduce f-CaO content and improve burn-ability of cement raw meal. Clinker mixed with copper tailings has good crystallization and more minerals such as C3S and C2S. Furthermore, clinker mixed with copper tailings has good hydration degree, few pore structures and dense structure after hydration, and compressive strength increases as well.
