Abstract

Porous Ti-Al alloys with different nominal compositions were fabricated through a reactive synthesis of Ti and Al elemental powders. It has been found that the pore parameters vary with the Al contents, indicating that the nature of the pores can be manipulated through changing the Al contents. In addition, detailed structural characterizations showed that the fabricated porous Ti-Al alloys can have three crystalline phases (i.e., α2-Ti3Al, γ-TiAl, and TiAl3) when using different compositions. The fundamental reasons behind these phenomena have been explored.
