Abstract

A novel one-dimensional cadmium(II) complex {[Cd(BDC)(bpimb) 0.5(H2O)] · H2O}n (1) with phthalic acid (H2BDC) and 1,4-bis((2-(pyridin-2-yl)-lH-imidazol-l-yl) methyl)benzene (bpimb) has been synthesized by means of hydrothermal method and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, thermal analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal is of monoclinic, space group P21/c with a=1.591 9(3) nm, 6=0.689 23(14) nm, c = 2.2295(3) nm, β=126.882(10)°, V=1.9566(6) nm3, Dc =1.121 g · cm3, Z=4, F(000)=1 020, Goof=1.070, R1=0.049 4, wR2=0.101 9. Complex 1 shows a novel one-dimensional (1D) ribbon structure and further extended into a 3D supramolecular structure through 0-H· · · O and C-H··· O hydrogen bonding interactions. Luminescent studies show that complex 1 exhibits intense blue fluorescent emission.
