Abstract
Experimental investigation on the limit oxygen volume fraction, explosion limit and explosion suppression effect of methane was carried out by adding N 2/CO 2 mixture into methane-air mixture. Results show that the limit oxygen volume fraction decreases linearly with the increment of N 2 in N 2/CO 2 mixture. The influence of various compositions of inert gases on explosion limit of methane mixture can be considered to be linear. The higher the composition ratios of CO 2 in N 2/CO 2 mixture, the better the explosion suppression for methane. Besides, the obtained fitted equation can predict methane explosion limits in any composition ratios of N 2/CO 2 mixture. The above results can be used as a reference for explosion protection design in engineering.
